Museum Visit Project Assignment Instructions Description:  Below, I have listed three options of museums that you may choose from. From that museum’s collection, you will select five works of art from periods we cover in this course.

You will select these works in order to put them together into a virtual exhibition. Make sure you’are intentional about your selection because you will need to have a theme for your exhibition. You may select your theme based on the subject matter, the historical/artistic period, or some other  theme. You will then research these works, citing at least one scholarly source, other than the textbook,

for each of your selected art objects. Each of your five entries must be at least 150words. This project will be worth 150 points. Most museums provide brief labels that accompany works of art. Sometimes labels include factual information about the work’s art historical significance (i.e.: Van Gogh completed this image soon after moving to Paris where he first saw paintings by the Impressionists).

Others direct viewers to make connections between form and meaning (i.e: Van Gogh’s use of thickly textured paint, a technique called impasto, contributes to its expressive impact.) Still others might offer information about iconography (i.e.: Van Gogh may have included the crows in hispainting as a symbol of death.)

Choose five objects from the museum and write museum labels for a general audience (amuseum visitor who has little or no previous knowledge about art). You will need to identify the object by indicating the artist, title, date of production, and media (does not count toward wordcount.) Then write a paragraph or 2 of at least 150 words about the object (this is your caption[museum wall label/text]).You should rely on your own observations and any information you have learned from the textbook or in the course materials.
