Worship then and now
What are the main similarities and differences between the worship of Old Israel and Christian worship today, as you know it?
Old Israel worship and Christian worship have several similarities and differences. The Old Israel worshipers emphasized Godβs righteousness and the need for purification and forgiveness to remain in His presence. They sacrificed animals at the altar to appease God, seek blessings and forgiveness. The priests were mediators between people and God. Christians today do not require animal sacrifice, and they can speak directly to God without mediation. Christian worship also has priests and preachers, but their primary roles are to offer spiritual guidance, spread Godβs word, and encourage His people to remain dedicated to his teachings and ways of life. The Old Israel worshippers celebrated Passover by slaughtering and eating a lamb, bitter herbs, unleavened bread, and other symbolic foods. Christians today also have their tradition, and they celebrate Christ by sharing a small price of bread and little wine that represent Christβs perfect body and blood, respectively. Christians still celebrate Passover, Easter, Pentecost, Lent, and Christmas. The Old Israel worship is foundational to most Christian practices today. Christians congregate in churches to worship together as Old Israel Worshipers did in Tabernacles, which was a meeting ground between God and the priests. However, the church welcomes everyone without discrimination. The Old Israel worshiped through songs similar to todayβs Christian worship music. Worship leaders in churches guide and lead the congregation through praise and worship songs.
Do you think Christian worship, as you have experienced it, still emphasizes these themes? How or how not?
Both Old Israel worshipers and Christians emphasize Godβs righteousness, purification, and forgiveness. Worship in Old Israel involved animal sacrifices to glorify God, give thanks, and seek forgiveness. Christians praise, thank, and seek fogginess through worship in songs and prayers. Through Christ, Christians communicate directly to God to glorify and thank him and seek forgiveness. Christians worshiping in joy is similar to Communion offering in Old Israel worship. Also, Christian worship using remorseful songs and prayers to seek forgiveness can be compared to the Old Israel Sin Offerings. Today Christians can worship and communicate with God at any time, and they do not need any sacrifice but self to remain in His presence. Christians do not need to be in or around the church to feel Godβs presence because He is always with us, unlike the Old Israel priest that had to meet God at the Tabernacle.

Question – Worship then and now
1. What are the main similarities and differences between the worship of Old Israel and Christian worship today, as you know it? The tabernacle and the worship rituals were set up to emphasize God\’s holiness and the need for worshippers to be cleansed and forgiven to enter His presence.
Worship between those of Old Israel and modern Christians today are very different. Some of the differences include animal sacrifices, altars and the use of Priests to speak to God. Whereas today Christians donβt have to give an offering, use altars, or the need to have a priest speak directly to God on their behalf. Although modern Christians have a preacher, they are different than the Priests; As preachers are there to guide Christians in their worship, but not used as a direct communicator like the Priests in Old Israel.
In regard to the celebrations we still celebrate, Passover is very different. Today, Passover is often done at church with a small sip of wine or grape juice and a morsel of bread. Whereas in Old Israel you had to sacrifice a lamb that has to be approved by the priests and then take the slaughtered meat to be eaten at home. Followed by eating unleveled bread, used to represent sin, and drink four cups of wine. Along with other symbolic foods used to represent parts of the Exodus story. In contrast, I believe they are very similar because Christians today created their worship habits through the foundations of Old Israel.
For instance, we still congregate in a church which I believe is similar to the Tabernacle. The church is used as a means for Christians to congregate and worship God, just as the Tabernacle was once a meeting ground between the Priests and God.
However, the biggest difference between the church is that all are welcomed to come and celebrate God. Through Old Israel and the Levites, we also now have worship music. I believe the Levites set the foundation of todayβs worship leaders. Worship leaders are the ones responsible for setting the tone of worship and leading the congregation in worship to God. Although we still celebrate religious festivals like Passover, we also celebrate Easter, Lent, Pentecost and Christmas. 2. Do you think Christian worship, as you have experienced it, still emphasizes these themes? How or how not? From my understanding of the readings and power points, the themes of worship in Old Israel were through animal sacrifices to bring thanks and joy to God or seek forgiveness.
In my experience, I do just this through worship. Worship allows Christians to speak to God through their praises to him. This joyous worship is similar to the Communion Offering. Another form of worship is that of remorse, when we feel weβve done wrong and are seeking forgiveness. I can compare this to the Sin Offering of Old Israel. The only difference is that I believe God is always with us. Since he is, we can worship at any time. Through this belief, we donβt necessarily have to be at a church to feel his presence or speak to him. Whereas in Old Israel, you had to be a priest as the Tabernacle.
